Acti-Gard Antimicrobial Incise Drapes are an iodine impregnated film that are used in combination with draping or are built into the drape to kill bacteria and make the operating site as clean as possible. They were "repeat patch tested" in humans and found to be safe for the intended use. Additional animal studies observed no tissue or ocular irritation, sensitization or toxicity. The antimicrobial agent in ACTI-Gard was evaluated in laboratory studies and found to be safe and effective in reducing the levels of both laboratory stock and clinical isolates or organisms commonly associated with post-operative infection.New and Improved ACTI-GARD has the following features:Stable, long-lasting iodine complex that remains effective during long procedures and does not bleed. The low water solubility allows for extended effectiveness during wet procedures.It is a conformable film that will not stick to itself. The adhesive is heat activated that enhances the skin adhesion after it is positioned on the patient.The drapes can either be ethylene oxide or gamma sterilized. The stable antimicrobial agent in Acti-Gard allows both bulk non-sterile and single packaging, remains effective following ethylene oxide or gamma sterilization
